Bitcoin Core Developer Luke Dashjr Says His PGP Key Got Leaked
Through an official announcement made on Twitter on January 1, 2023, Luke Dashjr, who is a core developer behind Bitcoin, said that the PGP key had been compromised. His career began in 2001. However, he first discovered the Bitcoin project in 2011, after which he joined the project as a developer. He contributed to the project with a focus on troubleshooting security, performance, and advanced features within the Bitcoin Core.
Additionally, Luke noted that many Bitcoin (BTC) cryptocurrencies got stolen. PGP is a specification that stands for "pretty good privacy," and it is referred to as public-key cryptography.
The use cases behind PGP include digital signatures and asymmetric encryption.
The Italian Senate Approved a 26% Capital Gains Tax for Cryptocurrencies
On December 29, 2022, The Italian Senate approved its budget for 2023. This budget included an increase in taxation for cryptocurrency investors. Specifically, they included a 26% tax on capital gains on crypto assets trading over €2,000 Euros ($2,135.85 U.S. Dollars).
The approved legislation defines crypto assets as “a digital representation of value or rights that can be transferred and stored electronically, using distributed ledger technology or similar technology.”
Crypto assets were previously treated as foreign currencies within the country and had lower taxes as a result.
Sam Bankman-Fried Pleaded Not Guilty to Federal Fraud Charges, While Regulators Seized Millions in Robinhood Shares From FTX
The former CEO behind the FTC cryptocurrency exchange, Sam Bankman-Fried, pleaded not guilty to federal charges in New York, which occurred less than two months after the crypto empire collapsed.
Charges against Sam Bankman-Fried pleaded include money laundering, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, alongside securities fraud. The case in question was assembled by prosecutors from the Southern District of New York, which gained the cooperation of Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang, close lieutenants of Bankman-Fried.
In May of 2022, Sam Bankman-Fried, as well as the co-founder of FTX, Gary Wang, formed a holding company called Emergent. Its goal was to purchase shares in the publicly traded platform known as Robinhood.
$450 million in Robinhood shares from FTX were taken under custody by the U.S. Justice Department, based on a Delaware bankruptcy court hearing.
The Goobers NFT Founder and Twitch Streamer DNP3 Admits to Gambling With Investor Funds
A popular Twitch streamer that goes by the name of DNP3, as well as the founder of numerous virtual currency projects, opened up about gambling addiction, which resulted in the loss of investor funds.
DNP3 made an announcement to his followers on January 3, 2023, admitting his guilt as well as expressing remorse. The streamer was behind numerous Web3 projects, such as The Goobers NFT, charity-based CluCOin, and the Gridcraft Network.
The statement ended up revealing that the addiction began in 2022 when he was trying to recoup the losses suffered; however, it only led to larger losses. Projects which were affiliated with DNP3 tumbled following the announcement.
Logan Paul Has Been Accused of Indulging in Fraudulent Activities With the NFT Game Crypto Zoo
Throughout the past week, Investigative YouTube journalist Coffeezilla released a series of videos that ended up accusing YouTuber as well as boxer Logan Paul of getting into fraudulent activities through his NFT game known as "Crypto Zoo."
The video, which is titled “Investigating Logan Paul’s Biggest Scam,” said a lot of things that impacted the crypto world, as Coffeezilla highlighted the scam behind the play-2-earn (P2E) game.
The journalist alleged that Logan Pau's team did not spend $1 million in building the game but copied the code from FlokiShibX and claimed it as their original game. “People were buying marketing and promises,” explained Coffeezilla.
