3Commas Admitted That They Were the Source of an API Leak That Led to Hacks
A group of traders throughout December noted that $22 million worth of crypto was stolen through compromised API keys from the trading platform known as 3Commas.
3Commas later admitted that they were the source of the API Leak. The announcement occurred after an anonymous Twitter user gained around 100,000 API keys that belonged to 3Commas users and published them online. 3Commas initially stated that there was no security issue, where the co-founder Yuriy Sorokin repeatedly suggested on Twitter that a phishing attack caused users to give up their data. However, this changed on December 28.
“We saw the hacker’s message and can confirm that the data in the files is true. We are sorry that this has gotten so far and will continue to be transparent in our communications around the situation." tweeted Sorokin on December 28, 2022.
3Commas is a platform that enables users to link multiple cryptocurrency exchange accounts to automated trading software through application programming interfaces (APIs), which is the standard mechanism that enables separate software components to communicate and perform tasks.
